Laying CEHIMOSA's products
Cehimosa tiles need to be laid carefully by an experienced professional.
Because tiles are completely extruded and natural material, before installing the tiles, it
is recommended to mix the content of several boxes in order to obtain an optimum mixture of shades.
JOINTS:
Should be laid with special joints because the material is extruded. Should be open joints measuring minimun from 8 to 10 mm approx.
LAYING:
It is important to check the alignment of the tiles while they are being laid by checking the parallel lines on the back of the tile.
The lines on differents tiles should run either vertically or horizontally, but not in combination. This will help to avoid sligth differences in size wich are normal in tiles of this type. To ensure a perfect level on the mortar bed, apply a batten to the top surface of the tiles and press down firmly.
Do not leave gaps in the mortar under the tiles, as it can subsequently cause breakage in case of frost temperatures, falls or heavy loads.
TILE LAYING TRADITIONAL MORTAR:
The thickness of the mortar to use has to be at least 4 cm and the mixture must be as homogeneous as possible.
- Outdoors mortar composition: 1 part Portland cememt / 3 parts silica sand
- Indoors mortar composition: 1 part Portland cememt / 4 parts silica sand
Once the mortar bed has been properly laid and levelled you can proceed to lay the tiles and leaves the right space between them. All joints should be completely straight.
PLASTIC ADHESIVE:
Proprietary plastic adhesives can be used to lay Cehimosa’s tiles. They should be spread over a well-prepared flat and rigid base using a notched spreader. For further instructions, see the manufacturer recommendations.
FILLING THE JOINTS:
Before proceeding to fill spaces between tiles, the mortar bed must be completely dry. We recommend to follow these steps:
a) Use a mixture of 50% Portland Cememt to 50% Quartz Sand, adding water slowly until a thick pasty consitency is obtained.
b) Extend the paste over the floor tile with the help of a rubber spreader, pressing down firmly over the joints to ensure that they are properly filled.
c) After filling the gaps over a surface area 30 to 40 m2 , remove all excess grouting using a rubber spatula and springkling the surface area with the same Quartz Sand used for mixture. Wait 5 to 10 minutes until the sand has begun to dry.
d) Use a dry cloth to rub over the floor tile with a circular motion so as not to damage the joints. Once the whole surface is grouted and dry, clean the floor tile in order to eliminate the rests of cement.
FILLING THE COLOUR JOINTS:
Not recommended.
DILATATION JOINTS:
You should pay attention to these joints, not exceeding the surface area delimited by them, 30 to 35 m2, reducing this surface area when the marerial is going to be placed outside, not exceeding in this case 25 m2.
When making the dilatation joints we recommend to cut the cement slab shick is under them. Grouting should be done with permanent elasticity materials.
